The status of membership in an organization gives the pilot authority to accept and fly a mission that has been coordinated by the organization. Because the organization has certain implicit responsibilities as the coordinator of the mission, the status of membership for those pilots who fly is a way of ensuring that those pilots maintain a valid membership status. This includes the signing of a pilot affirmation statement.
The three main purposes of the membership maintenance processes are:
- Collect recent contact and pilot information for members to maintain accurate records
- To collect dues, if applicable.
- To ensure that the organization has a signed pilot affirmation for all members that is not more than one year old.
